What To Wear For Summer Cycling

Summer Cycling is what cyclists live for. Here are a few tips on what to wear - to avoid turning into a hot gasping mess on the road. Stay cool.

A GOOD SUMMER CYCLING JERSEY

A summer jersey is lightweight, breathable, and provides sun protection. The material used for Cycology jerseys and knicks has a UPF sun protection factor of 50, the highest rating, and blocks 98% of UVA and UVB rays. If you have very fair skin, a base layer will of course add another layer of sun barrier.

BLACK IS THE NEW...BLACK

When choosing cycling kit, there is a common perception that white is better in summer as it reflects light and heat. However, black coloured clothing absorbs heat from your body, and when you are cycling the heat dissipates quickly in the wind. This is a topic open to debate, though dark coloured cycling kit may be better than you assumed.

ALL ABOUT THAT BASE

A surprise for some cyclists is that wearing a base layer in summer can keep you cooler. A lightweight, breathable, skin-hugging base layer helps wick away sweat, keeping you cooler and dryer. It is also another layer of skin protection from sun...and if you hit the road.

Base layers and arm sleeves go a long way in the summer, despite the implications of 'more is more' in hot climates.

SUN SLEEVES

With the increase in sun awareness, arm-protectors are becoming more popular. This arm protection is more convenient than applying sunscreen, and Cycology Arm Sleeves use ice-cool yarn technology. This keeps the fabric feeling cool against your skin in extreme heat and wicks sweat away from your arms, drying quickly on the outside of the garment.

CYCLING CAPS

Even if you have good sunglasses, our cycling caps with a peak will help keep the sun out of your eyes, wick that sweat, and dry incredibly fast.

PERFORMANCE SOCKS

Cycology's performance socks wick sweat away and dry fast, so you're not pedalling in pools of sweat in your shoes. Nasty.

SHORT FINGERED GLOVES

Short fingered gloves provide sun protection for the exposed tops of your hands, and protection against hand damage if there was an accident. Increased comfort due to padding on the palms, increased control due to sweat absorption and grip. We have a towelling 'sweat wipe' section on the thumbs.

NECK PROTECTOR

A neck protector worn on your head keeps the sweat out of your eyes, saves your helmet lining, makes wearing a helmet in Summer comfier, wicks sweat away from your head, and dries quickly. We have also worn them around our necks as a layer of skin protection against sunburn when riding all day in severe heat. It works!

These tips will hopefully allow you to remain cool during the best part of the year. Summer!
